Our Passion For Gardening

The journey of the Master Gardeners of Manitowoc County began in the summer of 1994, when sisters Dorothy and Rosie Bugs recognized the need for gardening education in our community. They worked together to bring Master Gardener training to Manitowoc County, and the announcement was made in the Manitowoc Herald Times on August 28, 1994.

Classes officially began on September 13, 1994, with 31 participants enrolled, and the program ran through mid-December of that year. Dorothy and Rosie served as facilitators, guiding participants through weekly educational sessions provided by the University of Wisconsin Extension.

The Master Gardeners of Manitowoc County held their first official meeting on January 10, 1995, marking the start of what has become a long-standing tradition of community engagement and gardening education.

Since then, our group has offered training sessions, workshops, and educational events to the public, helping gardeners of all skill levels grow their knowledge and passion for gardening. We remain dedicated to sharing our expertise and fostering a love of gardening within our community.

We welcome new members to take part in our exciting community.
